Jim is a founding member of Broening Oberg Woods & Wilson and has dedicated his career to the defense of healthcare professionals, hospitals and insurers in high-exposure medical claims in addition to the defense of professional claims of all types. He is national counsel for multiple insurers and entities who seek his advice and representation not only in Arizona but other jurisdictions as well. He has tried and continues to prepare and try the most challenging cases, generally to defense verdicts, with emphasis in the areas of birth trauma and catastrophic loss. He also serves as lead counsel in class action and insurance bad faith and coverage litigation.
Jim’s approach is pragmatic and successful. Whether it’s trying the case, acting in the role of monitoring counsel or simply acting as personal counsel his clients know that they have the benefit of years of experience to posture and handle their case to the earliest, best and most cost effective resolution in a settlement or in the courtroom.
Jim’s skills have been recognized by this peers with numerous honors. He is a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers (www.actl.com) and a Fellow of the International Academy of Trial Lawyers (www.iatl.net). He has been selected and listed in the reference publication, The Best Lawyers in America, each year since 1991 and was selected by his peers as Best Lawyers in America 2014 Arizona and New Mexico Lawyer of the Year in the medical malpractice defense category. He is selected and listed in Southwest Super Lawyers, Arizona’s Best Attorneys and received the 2016 Arizona Association of Defense Counsel Integrity and Professionalism award. Jim is certified as a specialist in Personal Injury and Wrongful Death by the Arizona Board of Legal Specialization and holds an AV Preeminent Rating by Martindale-Hubbell.
