Leanne Hay’s moot court team places first in Pacific Regionals

Law clerk Leanne Hay’s moot court team placed first in the pacific regional of the Jessup Moot Court Competition, which is widely considered the largest and most prestigious of the moot court competitions. She and her team from Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law went undefeated, picking up awards for the second, fourth, and eighth best speaker in the competition, as well as fourth best written memorial. Alice Jones presents CLE on Arizona Appellate Law in 2020

On February 24, 2020, Alice presented to the Tucson Defense Bar at the Hotel Congress for their February CLE Luncheon.  Her presentation, “What New in Appeals? Appellate Law in Arizona 2020,” covered recent opinions issued in 2019 and early 2020 by the Arizona Court of Appeals and Arizona Supreme Court that are applicable to civil litigators.  She also discussed recent changes at the Arizona Court of Appeals and the Arizona Supreme Court as well as recent rule amendments.  The Tucson Defense Bar was very welcoming and Alice enjoyed meeting several Tucson practitioners.…

Jathan McLaughlin presents CLE on the administrative hearing process

On June 27, 2019, Jathan McLaughlin presented an in-house CLE regarding the administrative hearing process in Arizona.  The presentation covered how to represent licensed professionals in actions brought by Arizona’s administrative agencies before the Office of Administrative Hearings.  Mr. McLaughlin discussed best practices for mitigating a client’s potential damages at the outset of an administrative matter, handling the administrative hearing, and appealing an adverse ruling to the Lower Court and the Court of Appeals. …

Nick Scavio conducts CLE on federal court procedures

On January 29, 2019 , Nick Scavio conducted a CLE for the firm titled “Federal Court: How to get there (and what to do once you’re in)”.  With the growing number of Federal Court matters our firm is taking, this CLE gave members of the firm a chance to review jurisdictional requirements of the District Court.  In doing so, this CLE covered subject matter jurisdiction, including diversity jurisdiction and how to remove.  Nick also discussed personal jurisdiction and performed a case study of where we successfully dismissed a case brought in the wrong venue.  Finally, Nick compared practice in the …
